Certification Verfication FAQs
What is the National Student Clearinghouse?
The National Student Clearinghouse is the largest academic and
professional certification verification service in the US. A non-profit
organization established by the higher education community in 1993, the
Clearinghouse serves as a central repository and single point of contact
for the collection and timely exchange of accurate, comprehensive
enrollment, degree and certificate records on behalf of participating
institutions. More than 3,100 colleges, enrolling 91% of US college
students, participate in the Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse performs
over 100 million electronic verifications annually.
Why do I need to verify certifications?
It is estimated that 40% of IT job applicants falsify their
certification credentials, putting employers at high risk of hiring
unqualified or under qualified individuals. Because technology is
central to the operations of most companies today, it is important to
make well-informed and timely decisions about hiring, promoting and
compensating IT staff.
Additionally, unlike college degrees, certifications — especially IT
certifications — can have short lifespans, making it difficult for you
to know if a candidate has completed the most current requirements for
the program. The Clearinghouse is the only provider of single source
certification verifications, offering an easy and affordable way for you
to verify important IT certifications and avoid costly hiring mistakes.
Will you be adding more certificate options?
Yes. New certification providers and certifications will be announced
as they are enabled. We are also planning to expand our service to
include certificates and licenses from non-IT industries, like
healthcare. If
you would like to suggest a certification option or provider, e-mail us
at degreeverify@studentclearinghouse.org.
Why do certificate verifications cost more than
educational verifications?
The Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization, strives to keep
verification fees as low as possible while still covering our operating
costs. Certification verification is slightly more than educational
verification because our cost to access certification data is higher.
Can I obtain certificate verifications using my
DegreeVerify account?
Yes, DegreeVerify customers can automatically obtain certification
verifications via their online account. No additional agreements or
paperwork is required.
How do I purchase certification verifications?
How can I verify my invoice?
Your Transaction History shows when each request was submitted and completed, and each verification's fee. Total fees are updated in real time, giving you immediate access to current billing information. Additionally, Transaction Histories, useful for account reconciliation, are available for all prior months.
