Clearinghouse Names Robert L. Dunning As South-Central Regional Director

HERNDON, VA, July 25, 2003 - The National Student Clearinghouse, a non-profit association founded by the higher education community that provides educational verification and research services to post-secondary institutions, today announced the appointment of Robert L. Dunning as director of its south-central region, effective July 1, 2003. More than 2,700 post-secondary institutions - representing 91% of the nation's college enrollment - participate in the Clearinghouse.

Mr. Dunning will promote Clearinghouse services to registrars, admissions officers and institutional researchers at colleges and universities throughout the 10-state south-central region, which includes Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming. He will be responsible for increasing participation in the Clearinghouse's free degree and enrollment verification programs, DegreeVerify and EnrollmentVerify, and its subscription-based educational research service, EnrollmentSearch.

"Robert's extensive experience working in and managing a university registrar's office provides him with real insight into the challenges faced by registrars and administrators today," said Daniel R. Boehmer, president of the National Student Clearinghouse, "As a long-time Clearinghouse client, he also understands the advantages of using our services. We believe he will be an asset both to the Clearinghouse and to the institutions in his region that will benefit from his firsthand experience and knowledge."

"I'm excited to join an organization that is so well-known and well-respected throughout the collegiate community," said Robert Dunning, "and I'm looking forward to working with my peers in the south-central region to help them take maximum advantage of the Clearinghouse's services."

Mr. Dunning has more than 35 years of experience in college registration and administration. Prior to joining the Clearinghouse, he served as the university registrar at Sam Houston State University, a 13,000-student institution in Huntsville, Texas, for 13 years. Under his direction, several technical advancements were introduced to improve service and productivity, including computerized academic records, EDI transcripts, and Web-based registration and grade reporting. During his tenure, the university also became the first post-secondary institution in Texas to participate in the Clearinghouse.

Mr. Dunning was a founding member of the Clearinghouse's Registrar Advisory Committee and helped establish the data requirements and processes for the launch of its degree verification service, DegreeVerify; make recommendations for new services and service enhancements; and provide guidance on FERPA and privacy issues. He is an active member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO), and the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (SACRAO). Mr. Dunning has chaired and served on numerous committees, including registration systems and technology, and presented extensively at industry conferences.
