DegreeVerify Expands, Now Includes More Than 460 Colleges and Universities

HERNDON, VA, APRIL 11, 2003 - The National Student Clearinghouse, the nation's largest, most trusted source for post-secondary student degree and enrollment verification services, announces today that more than 460 colleges and universities, representing over one third of all degrees issued in the nation, have signed up for its DegreeVerify service. DegreeVerify enables colleges and universities to outsource degree verifications to the Clearinghouse. This allows recruiters, employers, and other individuals and organizations to instantaneously verify academic credentials for graduates of these institutions via the online DegreeVerify service at www.degreeverify.org

Through DegreeVerify, the Clearinghouse provides degree verification services at no charge to participating colleges and universities. Launched less than two years ago, DegreeVerify is the largest single source of degree data, and contains information on more than a third of all degrees awarded in the US. The number of schools participating in DegreeVerify is growing at a rate of one percent per month. The service is modeled after the Clearinghouse's original student loan-based enrollment reporting service, which represents 91% of the students enrolled in the nation's colleges and universities.

Participating in DegreeVerify frees schools from the administrative burden of processing degree verifications. Schools that participate in DegreeVerify appoint the Clearinghouse as their agent to disseminate degree information, regularly provide it with updated degree data, and refer all degree verification requests to the Clearinghouse.

For a complete list of participating institutions and more information on the DegreeVerify program, please visit the Clearinghouse website at www.degreeverify.org.

About The National Student Clearinghouse

The National Student Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization founded by the higher education community, maintains a comprehensive electronic registry of post-secondary student enrollment and degree records. Through the regular accumulation and aggregation of student records from participating post-secondary educational institutions into a centralized national registry, the Clearinghouse provides a single, highly-automated point-of-contact for organizations requiring timely, accurate verification of student enrollment, degree, and loan data.

Today over 2,700 colleges, representing 91% of the nation's enrollment, participate in the Clearinghouse by providing regular student record updates on all of their currently enrolled students to our national databases. Student loan providers, employers, student credit card issuers, student health insurance providers and the federal government access the Clearinghouse's registry over 100 million times annually to conduct electronic student record verifications.
